Midfielder Andres Iniesta expects to sign a new Barcelona contract
Andres Iniesta has denied speculations that he will leave Barcelona and has said that he expects to sign a new deal.
It is being rumored that Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City will try to take advantage of a delay in Iniesta agreeing a new contract by making a move for the midfielder.
However, the Spain international spoke about his club future ahead of his country's World Cup qualifier against Georgia as rumours persist that he could leave the Nou Camp when his current deal runs out.
"You have to be where you want to be, and Barca is the place for me," Iniesta told Movistar's webpage.
"The club knows that and wants me to stay, so I hope and expect to spend the years I have left playing there."
One player who did leave Spanish football in the summer to head to England was Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil and the Germany international's switch to Arsenal surprised Iniesta.
"I was surprised Real Madrid sold him," he continued.
"Right now he is one of the best in the world when it comes to linking up with and getting the most out of other players."
Barcelona have made a 100 per cent start to the campaign and Iniesta has been delighted with the arrival of new coach Tata Martino.
"Tata has come in and kept things ticking along," he added. "The philosophy he believes in and gets across is very similar to the one we have had all along.
"I am hoping for a great year and that is the way things are shaping up."
