Arsenal set up FA Cup Quarter Final clash with Everton as they knocked Liverpool out in Round 5
Arsenal held off a late fightback from Liverpool to book their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski put Arsenal in control of this FA Cup fifth-round tie but they needed their defensive strengths, and a strong display from Lukasz Fabianski in goal, to resist Liverpool after Steven Gerrard pulled one back from the penalty spot.
Wenger's team selection suggested he had one eye on Wednesday's Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich, as seven changes were made and Yaya Sanogo was given his first start.
Sanogo brought it down on his chest and had a shot blocked by Gerrard, but the ball broke for Oxlade-Chamberlain for a composed finish.
Mathieu Flamini, back from a three-match ban, was shown a yellow card for a late tackle on Gerrard, becoming the fourth player booked in a feisty first half. Lukasz Podolski slotted home Arsenal's second goal which was assisted by Oxlade-Chamberlain before going on to foul Luis Suarez which caused a Penalty Kick. Liverpool recovered well and enjoyed a strong spell of possession, but struggled to force Fabianski into any further saves. Liverpool felt they should have had another penalty when Suarez appeared to be clattered by Oxlade-Chamberlain in the area, but Webb was unmoved, before Agger then came close to hauling the sides level late on but headed wide with the goal gaping.
