Facebook Unveils its $1,500 virtual reality headset which is compatible with Microsoft's Xbox
Oculus, the virtual reality firm which was acquired by Facebook last year in a $2 Bilion deal have released the details of its $1500 headset.
The headset will be available for sale early next year, and will be able to work with Microsoft game console, Xbox.
In an event which was held in San Francisco, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said: "Three years ago this August, we started a kickstarter. We wanted to transform the way we experience entertainment."
"There's been something missing from gaming, its been trapped behind a 2D display. Your brain knows you are in a living room, (and) playing on a TV," he added.
"You don't feel scared, its on a screen. VR enables us to deliver anything, anywhere."
"For the first time finally we will be inside the game, (and) this will change everything. The goal is that you put it on, and it disappears."
Palmer Luckey, founded the company at 15 and was working on prototypes in his parent's garage. He revealed that the company also developed a wireless controller called Oculus Touch. He said: "We've been working on VR input since the first days. We see it evolving, there will be different inputs for different games."
Oculus Touch is a set of handheld motion controllers that let you see your hands in virtual reality. The touch lets you pick up object, fire a gun, or point at things. It will include an integrated inertial and 360-degree movement tracking, a haptic feedback that can shake to make you feel like you are touching something.
Meanwhile, CEO Iribe added: "We are looking at an all-in price. If you have to go out and actually need to buy a new computer, and you are going to buy the Rift, at most you should be in that $1,500 range."
