Southampton Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin signs for Manchester United

      Manchester United on Monday announced the capture of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin on a four year deal with an option for a further year.

Schneiderlin has been linked with a move away from the Saints for the past two seasons. Last season, he tried to force a move away from the club and stated his desire to play Champions league football. 

A fee was agreed over the weekend, and the Frenchman had a medical at Carrington on Sunday. Schneiderlin spoke about his delight joining the English giants, and also used the opportunity to thank Southampton for making the move happen.

He told the club's website, saying: "I am delighted to be a Manchester United player. Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make."

"I have enjoyed seven very happy years with Southampton and it’s a club that will always be in my heart. But the chance to be part of this squad to help this great club be successful was too good to miss.

"I’m excited to be starting that journey on our trip to the USA. I know what Manchester United means to fans all over the world and I’m looking forward to experiencing that."

United coach van Gaal who has acquired Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian this summer, spoke about his fourth signing on Monday. "Morgan is a very talented player with great energy and ability," the Dutchman said.

"His skills will complement the players that we already have and I am very pleased that we have been able to complete this deal before the tour to the United States.

"That training camp will be very important in our preparations for the new season and gives Morgan and the other players a chance to show our fans what they can achieve together," he added.

United will be looking to add a forward before the Transfer window closes on September 1. Schneiderlin spent seven years with the Saints and made 260 appearances during that period.

Both Schneiderlin, Darmian, Depay and Schweinsteiger were included in Manchester United pre-season squad.
