World's largest aircraft, Airlander 10, set for launch later this year

     The Airlander 10 which is 300-feet long and a large lightweight airship is set to launch soon.

The airship commonly referred to as the "World's Largest Aricraft" was originally designed for U.S. military by a UK-based company, Hybrid Air Vehicles(HAV).

The project is now currently backed by the UK government, and will be used for both civil and military applications.                                    
 Chris Daniels who is HAV head of partnerships and communications, said: "The sole problems existing old-style airships had [having] lots of ground crew, limited ability to carry payloads and to be susceptible to weather conditions. We solved all those problems with a new concept -- a hybrid aircraft. So a mix between a wing and an airship."

 Talking about using the airship as a transportation tool for wind turbines, Daniels added: "At the moment, the only way of doing (carrying equipment) is basically plowing a 50m-wide highway through pristine Nordic forest, which is not a good thing to do and they don't want to destroy ecological environment."

Last Month the International Business Times reported the airship will fly in 2015, and was currently undergoing a series of engine tests.

 The airship is said to be eco-friendly, and can be fitted with solar panels. Its manufacturers says it currently uses about 20% fuel burn of an existing aircraft, and a 325 hp V8 engines.

These engines enables the airship to survive extreme weather conditions, also making it possible to stay in the air for about five days while carrying its the maximum payload. Care to read More? Why not Check CNN
