Pellegrini: City need a big player this summer, preferably English
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has started planning for next season, saying he needs to sign a big name player who will help them challenge at top level.
Pellegrini said that city cannot go two years without bringing a big player, and this time, they would need an English player.
City were unable to spend big last summer due to restrictions from FIFA regarding the Financial Fair Play regulations, but are in a position to splash some cash this summer.
During a press conference, the Chilean said: "Big teams need to sign a big player. It is very difficult to do it every year, but every two years you must do it."
"I'm not just talking about Manchester City. You see Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern Munich -all the big clubs - all do it. It is important to have big names."
"I don't want to talk about plans for next season because we have to finish this season. It is very important the way we finish this season before we analyse all the players. So it is not the right moment to talk about it."
Talking about the FA proposition on a new rule regarding homegrown players in the league, and the possibility of loosing James Milner on free, he addeed: "We do need English players and we need good players."
City currently sit at fourth place in the premier league after a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday night. The current champions will be looking to over turn their poor run of form when the face arch-rivals Manchester United next week, or they might risk loosing out from UEFA Champions league qualification.
