Official: Liverpool sign Roberto Firmino for £29m
Liverpool have announced the £29 million signing of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim.
The 23 year old who is currently representing Brazil in the Copa America will carry out a medical with the reds after the competition. Firmino was also linked with a move to Manchester United, but opted to sign for the reds.
Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre flew out to Chile to complete the signing for the Brazilian midfielder. The club confirmed on Monday via their official website that Firmino has signed a long term contract with the club.
The former Hoffenheim midfielder who is quite versatile, plays primarily as an attacking midfielder, but can also operate on both flanks, or play as a striker.
Firmino made 153 appearances and scored 49 goals during his five-year stay at the German club. The midfielder who made his international debut last November has nine caps and four goals for Brazil.
The midfielder is also said to have a clean injury record, having featured in 33 of Hoffenheim's 34 league fixtures each of the last three seasons.
