LA Galaxy sign Giovani dos Santos from Villarreal CF

      Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy have signed Villarreal CF and Mexico International Giovani dos Santos. The midfielder will be the club's third Designated Player after Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard.

The club already acquired Steven Gerrard on a free transfer from Liverpool this summer, with the Englishman set for his league debut. Dos Santos who was signed from Villarreal joined the club in 2013 where he scored 12 goals in 58 league games.

The 26 year old who started his career with Barcelona, has also played for Mallorca and English side Tottenham where he failed to nail a starting spot in the first team after a series of loan spells.

Despite his struggle with club teams, the midfielder has always been a key figure for his national team which he is currently representing at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena described Dos Santos as "a special player".

He told the club official website, saying: "He has experience and success competing at the highest level and we believe he will only continue to develop. We are happy to add him to our roster and have confidence he can be an integral part of our success going forward."

 The midfielder is pending receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC) based on the League and club policy.

Defender Omar Gonzalez, who was formerly a Designated Player had his contract reduced with the recently-announced Targeted Allocation Money. This opened up a Designated Player slot on the team, which led to the purchase of Dos Santos.

Robbie Keane, who was a former teammate of Dos Santos at White Heart lane, was delighted with the club's new signing. "He’s a great guy. He was a young kid when he came to Tottenham … but every time that he trained you could see what a player that he was, and a good kid in the dressing room. I’m very excited to have him here," he told the club's website.
