Manchester United Striker Robin van Persie signs for Fenerbahçe SK

       Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK is set to announce the imminent transfer of Dutch striker Robin van Persie from Manchester United.

The 31 year old arrived in Istanbul on Sunday night and will undergo a medical ahead of a three-year deal worth about £240,000.

Fenerbahçe announced on Thursday that they had entered into negotiations with the United hit-man over a potential move and they appear confident that the deal is done.

Fenerbahce has begun to transfer talks with Robin Van Persie and his club Manchester United.

Upon arriving at the Turkish city, the dutch man said: "I cannot wait to meet the fans. I am coming to a fantastic and wonderful club."

"It is a great honour for me," he added.

Meanwhile, United boss van Gaal has spoken little about the transfer. He said on Friday that talks with the Turkish club were still premature.

"When we feel we can say he is gone you shall hear it from Manchester United. We don't have the feeling yet," he said.

Van Persie will be joining former United team-mate Nani who signed for Fenerbahçe on Monday for a fee believed to be in the region of £4.25million.

With Falcao and van Persie leaving, united have only three recognized strikers (Wayne Rooney, James Wilson and Javier Hernandez) in their first team.

Some top European forwards such as Karim Benzema and Alexandre Lacazette have been linked with a move to Old trafford. Though, Real Madrid have reiterated that Benzema is not for sale and will not be leaving the club this summer, but Lyon's forward Lacazette could be a better option.

The 24 year old scored 31 goals in 38 appearances for French side Lyon last season, and helped them with a second place finish behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain. The club will be looking to acquire a forward before the start of next Premier League campaign on August 8.

After signing for Manchester Untied in 2012 for a fee of £24 million, the Dutchman has scored 48 league goals in 86 appearances; and has won the league title once during his three years at the club.
