Hamburg sack head coach Josef Zinnbauer
Bundesliga side Hamburg SV has sacked Josef Zinnbauer and his assistant Patrick Rahmen just after six months in charge.
The club has appointed its sporting director Peter Knaebel to serve as a caretaker until the end of the season.
In a statement released by Hamburg chief executive Dietmar Beiersdorfer, he said: "Joe Zinnbauer worked from his first day with great passion and maximum commitment."
"He gave everything for HSV. For this, we thank him." However, with our recent results and considering the overall sporting situation we found ourselves in, we are forced to make a change. "We are certain that it is the best option for us in this situation. Peter knows the team and the circumstances best, and is able to act immediately."
Hamburg is currently 16th in the Bundesliga, and one point safe from relegation with eight games to go.
